Season

When to climb Rinjani, and when not to

The trekking window runs April to October. What closes the mountain outside it, and why the sailing season is different.

The trekking window

Plan the treks between April and October. Outside that window the trail is often closed by rain and cloud, and the national park authority can shut the routes outright.

A closure is not a formality. The volcanic soil that is merely tiring in dry season turns into a slide when it is wet, and the summit view you came for is inside the cloud.

Inside the window

Dry season does not mean warm. The summit is cold before sunrise in every month, which is why a warm jacket, a windproof layer, gloves, and a hat are on every packing list regardless of when you come.

The park can still close a route at short notice. When that happens we move the date or adjust the plan with you rather than walking into bad weather.

Sailing runs on a different calendar

The Komodo voyage runs year-round, subject to sea conditions. The itinerary may change with the weather, and wildlife is never guaranteed: whale sharks in Saleh Bay are a real possibility, not a booking promise.
