Please do
Smile and greet people, elders especially, and shake hands gently.
Accept hospitality when it is offered. You do not have to eat or drink much, but accepting is the polite part.
Dress modestly: upper arms and thighs covered. Wear a sarong in the house of a Melokaq, the adat leader, and at any ritual or ceremony.
Use your right hand to eat and to pass anything to anyone, money included.
Sit at the same level as the people you are with, and bend down to walk around anyone who is seated.
Say goodbye and thank you when you leave.
Please do not
Enter a house, a building, or a village without being invited, or wear shoes inside a house.
Point at a person with your finger, and never point at anyone or anything with your foot. Sitting on the floor, keep the soles of your feet from facing people.
Touch anyone on the head, or step over a person or food on the floor.
Eat with your left hand, or give or accept anything with it.
Raise your voice, and least of all in anger. It costs you the room.
